Marchers in support of Arthur Sargsyan urged him to stop hunger strike
In Yerevan, over a hundred persons have demanded the release Arthur Sargsyan, accused of helping members of the "Sasna Tsrer" detachment, whose state of health has sharply deteriorated on the tenth day of his hunger strike.
On July 17-31, members of the group "Sasna Tsrer" (Daredevils of Sassoun) created by supporters of the opposition movement "Constituent Parliament" captured the building of the police regiment in Yerevan. At night of July 26, Arthur Sargsyan broke through the police cordon around the building and delivered food for the rebels. The court pronounced the pre-trial restriction measure to Arthur Sargsyan. The activist is suspected of assistance in hostage-taking and illegal purchase and possession of weapons.
At the protest action held near the building of the hospital for convicts in Yerevan, Alek Enigomshyan, a member of the "Constituent Parliament", has noted that "up to now, only three parties have commented on the arrest of Arthur Sargsyan and condemned law enforcers for it."
"You are getting ready for the elections and hope for people’s support; however, first prove that you are with people – demand to release Arthur Sargsyan, whose health is at risk," Mr Enigomshyan appealed to political forces.
Activists have stated that protests demanding to release Arthur Sargsyan will continue.
