Oleg Miskhozhev retracts his confession in case of Caliphate

Oleg Miskhozhev, whom investigators treat as an amir of the grouping, members of which were trying to establish a caliphate in Kabardino-Balkaria, has claimed at the trial court about the tortures used against him after his detention. He has also announced that he retracts the confession made under the pressure of law enforcers.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in August 2016, in Rostov-on-Don, the court started consideration of the case against ten residents of Kabardino-Balkaria. According to the investigators, all 10 defendants of the criminal case were members of an illegal armed formation (IAF), whose goal was to change the constitutional system and establish a caliphate with a Sharia form of government in Kabardino-Balkaria.

At the court hearing held on March 28, Oleg Miskhozhev said that after the detention, he was subjected to torture and inhuman treatment. Law enforcers cut off his beard with scissors, tied his feet and hands with a sticky tape, put on his head a "smelly" cap, and put wires on his fingers.

They tortured Oleg Miskhozhev to force him to confess that he communicated with radical Islamists and helped them with money and food.

"They wanted to make an 'amir' of an IAF out of me," said the defendant. He also reported that he was offered to confess to the crimes he never committed or to die of torture. As a result, he signed many documents.
