Five persons leave Chechnya under programme of "Russian LGBT-network"

More than 20 people from Chechnya have appealed for help in connection with persecutions for their non-traditional sexual orientation; five of them have already left the republic, the "Russian LGBT-network" has reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that mass detentions in Chechnya of men suspected of their non-traditional sexual orientation were reported by the "Novaya Gazeta" newspaper on April 1. On April 4, the newspaper also wrote that there was a "secret prison" for people with non-traditional sexual orientation in the Chechen town of Argun. The Chechen authorities refute this data.

The programme of helping LGBT activists in Chechnya was launched on March 3, said the director of the "Russian LGBT-network". He noted that the network is trying to act as quickly as possible.

For security reasons, the network refused to clarify the procedure of leaving the republic.
