South Ossetian CEC confirms data of Anatoly Bibilov's electoral office about his victory

Following the results of the voting at the presidential election in South Ossetia, the Central Election Commission (CEC) has announced the preliminary data. According to those data, Anatoly Bibilov, Speaker of the Parliament, won the election. He has gained 57.98% of the votes and already announced his victory.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 9, South Ossetia held the presidential election and the referendum on the renaming of the republic to Alania. Following the results of the processing of ballots from 27 out of 77 polling stations, Anatoly Bibilov was the leader. In the evening of April 9, in Tskhinvali, his supporters gathered in front of the government building and announced his unconditional victory. Anatoly Bibilov himself has stated that the second round predicted by exit polls will not take place.

Together with Anatoly Bibilov, current president Leonid Tibilov and Alan Gagloev, an employee of the Republican KGB, were running for the post of the President of South Ossetia.

According to Bella Plieva, Chair of the CEC of South Ossetia, after the processing of ballots at all polling stations, except for the Dzau District and three polling stations in North Ossetia, Anatoly Bibilov gained 57.98% of the votes, Leonid Tibilov 30%, and Alan Gagloev 11.01%.

According to the referendum, 78% of voters who took part in the referendum voted for the renaming of the republic to Alania. 20% of voters stood against the renaming.

The total turnout reached 81%.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that the CEC promises to produce the final results within five days.
