Ingush Speaker suggests three-year imprisonment for bride abductors

Zelimkhan Evloev, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ingushetia, has suggested introducing a sentence of three years in prison for abducting brides. He asked MPs to draft an appropriate bill.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 12, the Investigating Department for Ingushetia of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reported that on April 8 at least five people penetrated into a house in the village of Kantyshevo near the city of Nazran and abducted a 19-year-old girl. According to investigators, this was the third suspect’s attempt to abduct the girl and marry her.

Mr Evloev has noted that "often bride abductions lead to bloodsheds." According to his version, the current Criminal Code "disregards the social danger of this offence."

On April 13, the head of the Security Council of Ingushetia has a meeting with Yunus-Bek Evkurov to report about the inquiry into the girl abduction in Kantyshevo. He explained that the girl belongs to the Polonkoev clan, while the abductor-the main suspect – to the clan of Evloevs.

Earlier, Yunus-Bek Evkurov himself said about the need to "cool down young men’s ardour."
