Political analysts treat Taron Margaryan as main candidate for position of Yerevan Mayor
All three political forces taking part in the elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan will receive mandates after the voting to be held on May 14. Taron Margaryan will be again appointed the City Mayor. This forecast was voiced by political analysts questioned by the "Caucasian Knot".
Earlier, it has been reported that the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), the "Apricot Country" Party, and the "Elk" bloc intend to take part in the elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan to be held on May 14. Five parties and blocs announced a boycott of the elections.
According to Boris Navasardyan, the head of the Yerevan Press Club, "the list of the 'Apricot Country' Party includes a lot of new persons." The other two parties nominate "people already well-known for their political activities."
The Republican Party of Armenia has once again relied on the intelligentsia, notes Boris Navasardyan.
According to him, the Republican Party of Armenia, "the only political force with financial and administrative resources," is a favourite at the elections.
Political analyst Grant Mikaelyan, a researcher of the Caucasus Institute, has noted that "the 'Elk' bloc, which has attracted well-known political figures, shows the most serious attitude to the elections."
According to Grant Mikaelyan, the RPA's list mostly includes cultural figures and "other persons well-known in the country not involved in the political activities."
The list compiled by the "Apricot Country" Party is characterized by a large proportion of women. The political analyst believes that the candidates nominated by the party are "not very representative."
