Two persons killed in shootout with law enforcers in Stavropol Territory

Militants who swore allegiance to the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia were killed in the Kochubei District of the Stavropol Territory.

On April 21, in the vicinity of Ust-Nevinsky, law enforcers tried to stop a Lada Priora car. Passengers of the car opened fire on them from submachine guns and tried to flee, reports the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC). Two militants were neutralized by return fire.

According to the preliminary information, one of the killed militants was a leader of a IS unit and was trained in terrorist camps in the Middle East. The second killed militant was an active member of the IS unit. The militants planned to commit a series of terror acts, including killings of religious figures.

At the place of the shootout, law enforcers found a submachine gun with ammunition and components for an improvised explosive device (IED).

"No civilians and law enforcers have suffered," the NAC reports as quoted by the "Interfax".
