In Georgia, leader of Labour Party calls on President to resign

The resignation of the Georgian President can cause the need for holding early election, and then the new Constitution will not enter into force. This was stated by Shalva Natelashvili, the leader of the opposition Labour Party of Georgia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 22, the State Constitutional Commission adopted the draft Constitution of Georgia by the majority of votes.

Giorgi Margvelashvili has refused to take part in the activities of the Constitutional Commission and declared his intention "to involve an alternative public hearing of the draft Constitution."

"The country faces the worst state-political crisis," Shalva Natelashvili said on air of the "Rustavi 2" TV Channel.

The leader of the Georgian Labour Party believes that the resignation of the President is the only way out. "His term of office expires in a year," emphasized Shalva Natelashvili.

According to him, the resignation of the President will demonstrate that the people stand against the proposed constitutional changes and that there is no longer need to hold voting concerning the presidential election procedure.

Today, the parliamentary opposition "European Georgia" Party has also started collecting signatures under the demand to hold a national referendum concerning the way of the election of the Georgian President.
