Politicians express their optimism about Georgia's membership in NATO

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) in Georgia has justified the expectations of Georgian politicians. Victor Dolidze believes that NATO is optimistic about Georgia's membership. According to Irakli Sesiashvili, Chairman of the Defence and Security Committee, such an event held in a country that is not a NATO member will affect its future steps in the organization. Giorgi Baramidze, the former Minister for integration into the European and Euro-Atlantic agencies, one of the leaders of the opposition "United National Movement" (UNM) Party, has expressed his doubts that Georgia will join NATO under the current government.

Levan Izoriya, Georgian Minister of Defence, has described the main strategic directions of the activities of the Ministry of Defence (MoD). According to him, military exercises, greater financing of military equipment and new infrastructure will allow counteracting "the dangers faced by the country with its supporters."

Foreign participants of the NATO PA have drawn attention to the reforms in Georgia and pointed out that the country "has come a long way in terms of democracy."

On May 29, upon the completion of the session, the NATO PA adopted a declaration to support the Georgia's Euro-Atlantic integration.
