Figurants of Caliphate case sentenced to long imprisonment

The court in Rostov-on-Don has passed guilty verdicts to the defendants, accused of an attempt to create a Caliphate in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR). They were sentenced to 6-16 years in prison.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the case against KBR's natives had been considered by the North-Caucasian District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don since August 2016. On May 18, the prosecutor demanded up to 20 years in prison for them.

Oleg Miskhozhev has been sentenced to 16 years, Akhmed Balkarov – to 15 years, and Islam Shogenov – to 14 years in a high security colony. After serving their terms, they will face a 1.5-year-long freedom restriction each.

The rest of the defendants, not charged with the article "Encroachment on law enforcer's life", received smaller terms, namely: Kantemir Zheldashev, Arthur Karov and Zaur Teguezhev were sentenced to seven years in a general security colony; Ruslan Zhugov and Ruslan Kipshiev – to six years. The time already spent by them in custody will be included into their terms.

Let us remind you that in April the trial was interrupted for checking defendants' statements about torture. On April 27, the prosecutor's office declared that no confirmations of torture statement had been found.
