Lom-Ali Gaitukaev's closest relatives to become his successors at ECtHR
Lom-Ali Gaitukaev, who died in a penal colony in the Vologda Region and who was sentenced in the case of Anna Politkovskaya's murder, filed a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) about violations committed during the trial in his case. He also filed a complaint after he was beaten at the penal colony, but he did not wait for its consideration. This was reported by his advocates and family members.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 10, Lom-Ali Gaitukaev died in the penal colony. His death was caused by his long-term decease, reports the Department for the Vologda Region of the Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN).
On June 13, the body of the deceased prisoner was given out to his relatives who came from Chechnya. Temirlan Gaitukaev, a nephew of Lom-Ali Gaitukaev, claimed some delay faced by the relatives in the procedure of giving out of his deceased uncle's body.
According to advocate Elena Kharionovskaya, Lom-Ali Gaitukaev spent about two years with short breaks in the hospital, and his health state was getting worse and worse.
The Lom-Ali Gaitukaev's death will not affect his complained filed to the European Court in any way, and his closest relatives will become his successors to the consideration of the complaint. This has been reported by advocate Tatiana Okushko, who represents the Lom-Ali Gaitukaev's interests at the ECtHR.
Meanwhile, the advocate has also noted that "many years can pass" until the complaint is considered by the ECtHR.
