Varuzhan Avetisyan, "Sasna Tsrer" member, suspected of calling for seizure of power

After defendant Varuzhan Avetisyan delivered his speech at the court hearing in the case against members of the unit "Sasna Tsrer" (Daredevils of Sassoun), an investigation has been launched into a criminal case on public appeals for seizure of power. This was reported by the Armenian Prosecutor's Office.

On July 17, 2016, an armed detachment "Sasna Tsrer" (Daredevils of Sasun) from among supporters of the "Constituent Parliament", captured the building of the police regiment of the patrol-and-post service (PPS) in Yerevan. The charges in the case on the capture of the building of the patrol-and-post (PPS) regiment were filed against 47 persons.

According to the General Prosecutor's Office of Armenia, on June 21, Varuzhan Avetisyan "interrupted the judge and in the presence of persons involved in the trial, citizens in the courtroom, as well as media reporters, called for the seizure of power and the violent change of the constitutional order of Armenia," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by an official from the press service of the General Prosecutor's Office of Armenia.

The official has added that the General Prosecutor's Office has instituted a criminal case under Article 301 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (public calls for the forcible seizure of state power, violent change of the constitutional order of the Republic of Armenia).
