OSCE starts inquiry into civilians' death in Alkhanly

Andrzej Kasprzyk, the personal representative of the Acting Envoy of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and his staff are conducting an inquiry into the death of civilians as a result of shelling of the village of Alkhanly in the Fizuli District of Azerbaijan. This was stated at today's press conference in Baku by Khikmet Gadjiev, the spokesman of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening on July 4, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) reported that as a result of shelling from the Armenian side, a woman and a two-year-old girl were killed and another woman got shrapnel wounds.

According to Mr Gadjiev, the statement made by the co-chairs of the OSCE's Minsk Group calling for an urgent termination of hostilities "was a preliminary one at the moment." The spokesman of the Azerbaijani MFA has expressed hope that after the inquiry into the incident, the co-chairs will make "their more specific, targeted and objective statement."

Today, Mr Kasprzyk has visited the troops contact line near Alkhanly and the village itself: accompanied by militaries, he examined the places, where the shells killed civilians; then, he visited the front line and returned to Alkhanly, the APA reports.
