Sochi activists speak against transfer of beach in state residence area to FSS

The Sochi Mayor's Office has transferred a beach in the area of the state residence "Riviera 6" to the Federal Security Service (FSS) for unlimited use. This is reported by the "Rosimuschestvo" (Federal Agency for State Property Management). Activists have started collecting signatures under an appeal to the prosecutor with the demand to verify the legality of the actions of the Sochi Mayor's Office.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 18, a fence was installed in the territory of the municipal beach in the area of the "Riviera 6" state residence, and the passage to the municipal beach was blocked. This provoked discontent of the Sochi residents. The request to remove the fence was addressed to the President and the government of Russia.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by an activist Irina Lyubchenko that on July 5, members of the initiative group on the protection of the Sochi beaches got an answer from the "Rosimuschestvo" regarding the appearance of a fence on the "Riviera" beach.

According to the letter of the "Rosimuschestvo" (a copy is available at the "Caucasian Knot"), the fence was built on the land plot handed over by the Sochi Mayor's Office to the Federal Security Service (FSS) for permanent use.

The activists opposed this decision of the Sochi Mayor's Office.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by activist Olga Samoilova that on July 5, the activists started collecting signatures on the "Riviera" beach to appeal to the prosecutor for the cancellation of the resolution issued by the Sochi Mayor's Office.

"What for FSS officers need a hectare of the city's beach? It is clear that not for the performance of their direct duties and protection, but for recreation. And why FSS officers are superior to us, residents of the city, or tourists?" said Olga Samoilova.
