State Duma ratifies agreement on Armenian-Russian military alignment
The agreement on the Combined Group of Armed Forces for Armenia and Russia has been concluded for 5 years with the possibility of its automatic extension. This has been reported by the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the agreement was signed by the Armenian and Russian Ministers of Defence on November 30, 2016.
One of the main tasks of the Combined Group of Armed Forces is to cover an overland part of the border between two countries. It is assumed that the Combined Group of Armed Forces will be controlled in peacetime by the Armed Forces of Armenia in agreement with the Russian side.
The composition of the Combined Group of Armed Forces will be determined by the Armenian and Russian Ministries of Defence on the basis of a joint analysis of the military-political situation "taking into account potential threats."
