Advocate states deterioration of Bairamly's health
Gezyal Bairamly, Deputy Chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), who is kept under arrest at SIZO (pre-trial prison) on charges of smuggling, is hardly walking around, because of an aggravation of her chronic illness. She does not receive the necessary treatment, said her advocate.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ms Bairamly was detained on May 25 while returning from Georgia. According to the Azerbaijani State Border Service, she carried an undeclared sum of 12,000 US dollars; and she was accused of contraband. Her advocate stated Bairamly's health problems and violation of her rights.
Ms Bairamly treats the charges against her as politically motivated. Her advocate claims that the searches conducted at her home were unlawful.
Zibeida Sadygova, the advocate of Gezyal Bairamly, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that on July 17, she visited her client at Baku SIZO-1.
According to her story, her client suffers from joint disease.
"Before the arrest, she received the necessary treatment. Right for this purpose she went to Georgia; and on her return from there she was arrested. Now, she has an inflammatory process going on in her knee joint. She can't bend her knee; for this reason, she has problems with walking: she can hardly move, "said the advocate.
Ms Bairamly receives no effective treatment at the SIZO. "Gezyal Bairamly complains about severe pains; however, they fail to treat her, just give anaesthetics to her," said the advocate, adding that Bairamly is not allowed to use her telephone. "According to the law, she has the right to call twice a week, but she is not allowed to without any explanation."
