Abkhaz MPH reports 53 wounded by explosion at ammunition depot
Among the victims of the explosion at the depot of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in the Gudauta District, there are seriously wounded ones, the head of the Ministry of Public Health (MPH) of Abkhazia reports.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the explosion in the ammunition depot near the village of Primorskoye in the Gudauta District of Abkhazia occurred this afternoon. After the explosion, a fire broke out, during which ammunition continued detonating. The authorities evacuated people from around the accident, dozens were hospitalized with wounds.
The number of victims of the explosion at the Abkhaz MoD’s ammunition depot has grown – more than 50 people have been hospitalized, including those in grave condition, Tamaz Tsakhnakiya, the head of the MPH, has reported. The majority of victims were diagnosed with fragmental wounds, concussions and bruises; however, there are no threats to their lives, the minister said.
Among the victims, there are 19 Russian citizens; the condition of one of them is grave, Tural Javadov, the press attaché of the Russian Embassy to Abkhazia, has stated citing the information from the Abkhaz MPH.
