Nurmagomedov's relatives treat court’s refusal to stop prosecuting him as cynical

A court in Moscow has dismissed the complaint about criminal prosecution of Shamil Nurmagomedov, suspected of sponsoring the terrorist organization “Islamic State” (IS), banned in Russia. Nurmagomedov said that he sent money to his brother in Syria. His family called the court's decision unreasonable and cynical.

Shamil Nurmagomedov, the commercial director of a company in the Moscow Region, a native of Makhachkala, was arrested on charges of sponsoring the IS.

His father Kazim Nurmagomedov has applied to the legal online service of the "Caucasian Knot", stating the unreasonable persecution of his son. The defence of Shamil has found out that he had sent money to Syria not to militants, but to his brother to pay for his return home.

After the court session, Kazim has suggested that his son was prosecuted because he "tried to participate in the tender held by the “Rostourism” for the organization of an exhibition."

"He was not admitted to the tender... Shamil decided to complain; and someone did not like this. Prior to the institution of the criminal case, a major from some power body tried to blackmail me by stating that my son was in Syria," said the father.

On August 16, the Moscow City Court will consider the complaint lodged by Shamil Nurmagomedov's defence against the extension of his arrest.
