PFPA treats arrest of party activist in Sumgait as unjustified

The Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) considers the arrest of Ruslan Gara, a party activist from the city of Sumgait, to be politically motivated and intends to file a complaint. Ismail Islamoglu, the Chairman of the Democratic Youth Organization of Azerbaijan, has also reported hi summoning to the police.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ruslan Gara was arrested in the administrative order for 20 days.

According to Ilham Gusein, the Chairman of the PFPA’s Youth Committee, Mr Gara "was kidnapped on August 11 by persons in civilian clothes in front of his house."

He has added that "they usually use ‘disobedience to the police’ or ‘petty hooliganism’ as typical accusations against youth activists."

According to Mr Gusein, Ruslan Gara is persecuted because of his activeness in defending political prisoners’ rights.

Ali Kerimli, the PFPA leader, has treated in his Facebook the Gara’s arrest as "political order."

Ogtai Gyulyaliev, the head of the Public Alliance "Azerbaijan Without Political Prisoners", believes that the arrest of Ruslan Gara and the summoning of Ismail Islamoglu to the police are "preventive measures" against the youth’s political activeness.
