Law enforcers: victims of explosion in Dagestan could be linked to militants
An explosion which occurred in the Khasavyurt District on August 17 became the sixth explosion since early 2017 in the territory of Dagestan. An improvised explosive device (IED) could detonate while militants were arranging a hiding. This was suggested by a source from the law enforcement agencies.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 17, an explosion occurred near the village of Novogagatli in the Khasavyurt District. Two persons were killed, and at least one was injured. Investigators believe the explosion was caused by detonation of an IED.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by a source from the law enforcement agencies for the Khasavyurt District that members of an illegal armed formation (IAF) could fell victim to the explosion "when they were digging out their hiding." However, the source did not rule out other versions of the incident.
The incident which took place on August 17 became the first officially confirmed case in Dagestan in 2017, when the explosion was accompanied by human casualties. In total, in 2017, there were six explosions in Dagestan provoked by different causes.
