In Makhachkala, law enforcers release 17 mosque-goers

Believers of a Salafi mosque in Makhachkala were detained after a Friday prayer, reported eyewitnesses. All 17 believers were released, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Dagestan reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 11, law enforcers detained 15 believers of the same mosque.

According to a believer, policemen stopped drivers near the mosque and offered them to go to the OVD (Interior Division).

"The police took preventive measures, stopped cars, and checked drivers for involvement in crimes. 17 people were brought to the OVD for the Soviet District of Makhachkala. Such raids are carried out regularly," explained an official from the press service for the Dagestani MIA.

According to Salim, a believer of the Salafi mosque, similar events were also carried out in the evening of August 23.

In the capital of Dagestan, law enforcers regularly detain visitors to the Salafi mosque. Such a practice contributes to the radicalization of the Salafis, rights defenders believe.
