Law enforcers accuse IS* of organizing mass phone calls with explosion threats

A wave of telephone calls around Russia with threats of planted bombs was initiated from abroad by persons associated with the "Islamic State" (IS)*. This was reported by a source from the law enforcement agencies.

From 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Moscow time on September 11, the Stavropol police received 42 reports on threats to blow up various trade, office, educational and administrative buildings. On September 11, in Stavropol, mass messages about mined buildings came from the same telephone number, reported the Prosecutor's Office.

According to a source from the law enforcement agencies, the "Islamic State" (IS), recognized as a terrorist organization and banned by the court's decision in Russia, is involved in the calls with threats of undermining the buildings in several Russian cities.

None of the reports about the planted bombs are confirmed, and all callers will be put on the international wanted list, the source reported. He has also added "the data about those people are not made public in the interests of the investigation."

In total, starting from September 11, in Russia, more than 130,000 people were evacuated because of anonymous phone calls about planted bombs.

*”Islamic State” (IS), earlier the “Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant” (ISIL) has been recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in Russia by the court.
