The death toll includes five suspected members of the armed underground and a law enforcer, all of them in Dagestan.

Special and counterterrorist operations

The counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime was introduced in Dagestan after on October 1, in the village of Babayurt, unidentified people shot and killed a district police inspector near his own house. He died from the wounds he got. At night, near the village of Kachalay in the Babayurt District of Dagestan, during the operational and search activities of the special operation, law enforcers stopped a car and were fired from it. Two men in the car were killed by return fire, and 28-year-old Shamil Yusupov, one more suspected participant of the attack on the policeman, fled. In the course of the shootout, a staff member of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) was slightly wounded. The killed suspects were identified as Djumageldi Adjiniyazov, born in 1988, and Kamal Ibragimov, born in 1988, residents of the village of Bolshaya Zadoevka in the Kizlyar District.

Law enforcers blew up the houses of the suspected militants in the Bolshaya Zadoevka village and explained that act by presence of explosive devices in the houses. Local residents doubted that explosives were stored in the houses. This was reported on October 2.

On October 4, in the CTO area in the Babayurt District of Dagestan, during the operational and search activities near the village of Kachalay, law enforcers stopped a car to check documents. People opened fire from the car, and two of them were killed by return fire. According to a source from the law enforcement agencies, the killed suspects were involved in the murder of a district police inspector in the Kizlyar District. During the searches of the suspects' houses, law enforcers discovered an improvised explosive device (IED). The killed suspects were identified as Anvar Ismailov and Rasul Radjabov, natives of the village of Novogeorgievka in the Tarumovka District. According to their relatives, on October 3, in Kizilyurt, young men were taken from their job places by unidentified armed people, who "forced the guys into a car." Over the next two days, their mobile phones were turned off, and nothing was known about their whereabouts. Relatives insist the killed men were not involved in the armed underground.

Bombings and terror acts

In the evening of October 4, the area of the former barrel factory in Makhachkala in Peter the Great Avenue was cordoned off after the police had got a report about an explosive device planted there. In the evening, law enforcers found a suspicious item, which looked like an incomplete explosive device, and called combat engineers. The liquidation of the suspicious item was postponed until daylight. In total, in the territory of the former factory, combat engineers discovered and defused two incomplete explosive devices (IEDs) with damaging elements. The power of IEDs made with metal pipes and plastic bottles amounted to 200 grams of TNT.

On October 6, in the capital of Dagestan, a man was killed as a result of a grenade explosion on the third floor in an apartment building in Akushinsky Avenue. The possible cause of the incident was in careless handling of weapons. It appeared not possible to identify the victim, and experts are engaged in carrying out a forensic medical examination.

On October 8, in Vladikavkaz, a local woman found an offensive hand grenade at the crossroads of Shota Rustaveli Street and Kosta Avenue. The entire adjacent territory was cordoned off by fighters from the National Guard of Russia and the MIA, who arrived in the place. The grenade was defused and handed over to members of the investigative-and-operational team of the MIA for North Ossetia.

Detentions

On October 2, three persons were detained on suspicion of plotting an attempt on Imam Khamzat Chumakov in Ingushetia. One more suspect managed to escape. The suspects planned to blow up the Imam near the mosque in the village of Nasyr-Kort after a Friday collective prayer. For their plan, the suspects packed an old Hyundai car with a powerful explosive charge. The suspects involved in the preparation of the assassination attempt on the Imam were identified by secret services agents due to the operational information. The suspect, whom field investigators treat as an organizer of the assassination attempt, managed to flee. Besides, the location of the Hyundai car has not been identified till present.
