Azerbaijani officer found dead near Armenian positions

Today, an official from the Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has reported about a discovery of a dead body of an officer on the border with Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence has confirmed the death of a soldier.

The dead Azerbaijani officer has been found by Armenian soldiers in front of one of their positions. According to the Armenian MoD, the deceased officer escaped from his military unit because of a crime committed there, reported Artsrun Ovannisyan, the press secretary for the Armenian MoD.

The deceased man was the Captain of the armed forces of Azerbaijan, a squadron commander, reported Artsrun Ovannisyan with reference to the operative and search information. He has also added that the Armenian side is ready to transfer to Azerbaijan the body of the deceased officer through the mediation of the Red Cross. Meanwhile, the Armenian MoD's press secretary did not specify how the Azerbaijani officer died.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence has confirmed the death of its man, but not an officer, but a soldier, 18-year-old Bakhruz Djalilbeili. The young man who was recruited to the army on January 5 "left his place of service after he had committed a war crime." At present, his dead body is close to the positions of the Armenian armed forces, on the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border, reports the statement posted today on the website of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence.
