Mikhail Saakashvili detained on suspicion of involvement in criminal grouping

Today, in Kiev, the former Georgian President has been detained in the case of aiding and abetting criminal organizations, the Security Service of Ukraine (known as SBU) reported. Mikhail Saakashvili is charged with an attempted coup d'etat, his advocate explained.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, law enforcers conducted a search in the Mikhail Saakashvili's apartment in Kiev and detained him, despite the protests voiced by the politician's supporters.

Mikhail Saakashvili has been detained within the criminal proceedings instituted under Part 1 of Article 256 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (assistance to members of criminal organizations and concealment of their criminal activities, note of the "Caucasian Knot"), announced the report posted on the SBU's website.

Mikhail Saakashvili's apartment was searched and he himself was detained because of suspicion that his team members were financed by "runaway oligarch Sergey Kurchenko," reported Arthur Gerasimov, a member of the Verkhovna Rada, during a parliamentary meeting. "The searches about which all of us have read today are carried out because of justifiable suspicions that Mikhail Saakashvili's team members were financed by subordinates of Viktor Yanukovich, in particular, by Sergey Kurchenko," the "Rada" TV Channel quotes Arthur Gerasimov as reporting.

Let us remind you that on July 26, Mikhail Saakashvili was deprived of his Ukrainian citizenship; however, on September 10, he broke through the Ukrainian border with Poland and returned to Ukraine.
