MoJ demands to liquidate "Volny Aul"

The Branch for the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) of the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has appealed to the republic's Supreme Court (SC) with a demand to recognize the public organization "Volny Aul" (Free Village) as extremist and to liquidate it. The leaders of the organization held unsanctioned actions on the land issue, the MoJ asserts.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the "Volny Aul" was created to defend the rights of residents of the same-named Nalchik micro-district, who demanded allocation of land plots to build houses. Applicants are intimidated, members of the "Volny Aul" complained to Yuri Kokov, the head of the republic.

The MoJ has treated violations in its activities as the basis to liquidate the "Volny Aul". According to the MoJ's Branch, "Volny Aul" leaders have violated the legislation on holding rallies, during which they encroached on "the rights and freedoms of Russian citizens," and also violated "public safety."

On October 31, Volny Aul residents demanded in Nalchik to meet its Mayor Arsen Alakaev, but were dispersed by law enforcers. This happened after Aslan Iritov, the head of Volny Aul, his brother, wife and daughter were beaten up by policemen.
