Police detain journalist near mosque in Makhachkala

Today, Idris Yusupov, a correspondent of the Dagestani newspaper "Novoe Delo", has been brought to the ROVD (District Interior Division) after he recorded on video raids by law enforcers near a Salafi mosque. He was accused of disobeying the demands of policemen, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) explained.

The journalist of the Dagestani newspaper "Novoe Delo" was detained after a Friday prayer, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Gadjimurad Sagitov, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Novoe Delo".

"He was recording on video the actions of the policemen who were conducting raiding events near the mosque located in General Omarov Street. He was approached by people in civilian and police uniforms. They presented no IDs, but forced him into a police car and taken him away to the Soviet ROVD," Gadjimurad Sagitov said.

The policemen have drawn up an administrative protocol against Idris Yusupov, a journalist of the "Novoe Delo", who has been brought to the ROVD today. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by an official from the press service for the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The MIA's official has specified that the police preventive measures took place not near the mosque in General Omarov Street, but in Yusup Akaev Street. The journalist refused to produce his ID to the policemen and explain to them why he was recording his actions on video, the MIA's official reported.
