USA condemn ratification of Russia-South Ossetia military agreement
The United States would not recognize the agreement on the inclusion of South-Ossetian army units into the Russian Armed Forces, which has been ratified by the Russian State Duma. This was stated by Heather Neuert, the spokesperson of the State Department. According to her version, the document "is not a valid international agreement."
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 31, 2017, the Ministers of Defence of Russia and South Ossetia signed an agreement on the inclusion of South-Ossetian army units into the Russian Armed Forces.
David Dondua, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia, has treated this fact as a violation of the ceasefire agreement concluded in August 2008.
The US support the territorial integrity of Georgia, Ms Neuert has noted.
Georgia regards Abkhazia and South Ossetia as territories occupied by Russia.
In South Ossetia, the news about the upcoming entry of some of its army units into the Russian Armed Forces was met with some apprehension.
