Authorities to pay for medical treatment of victims in Tbilisi metro
The state of the people injured in collapse of a ceiling at a metro station has improved, but they continue to stay in a hospital. The Ministry for Public Health and the Tbilisi Mayoralty will pay the costs for the medical treatment of the victims.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the morning on January 30, a part of the ceiling at the "Varketili" metro station collapsed. 14 people suffered, and the state of two of them was assessed as severe. One person was discharged from the hospital, and three others underwent surgeries.
According to the updated information, the state of the people injured as a result of the ceiling collapse at the metro station is stable, the "Georgia Online" reports with reference to Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze.
"All expenses for medical treatment will be covered by the Ministry for Public Health and the Tbilisi Mayoralty," said Kakha Kaladze.
The City Mayor has also emphasized the need to tighten control over the quality of construction and repair works. During the investigation into the incident, it was found out that the suspended ceiling at the "Varketili" metro station was mounted over the old structure.
