Two Tbilisi residents suspected of attacking transgender people
Georgian policemen detained two men on suspicion of beating up three transgender women in Tbilisi.
The incident occurred in the yard of a clinic. Miranda Pagava and Gabriela Roskipova are among those beaten up, said Mamuka Chelidze, the head of the Chief Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Criminal Police Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 28, Miranda Pagava, a 23-year-old transgender and an LGBT activist, was attacked. She complained that people did not react to her calls for help.
Authorities are obliged to protect sexual minorities from homophobia and investigate hate crimes, activists of the "Movement for Equality" have stated.
