Saakashvili banned to enter Ukraine

The Ukrainian State Frontier Service (SFS) has prohibited the former president of Georgia from entering the country for three years, until February 13, 2021.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 11, the State Migration Service (SMS) of Ukraine deported Mikhail Saakashvili to Poland. The deportation will be appealed against; the respective complaint has been sent to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), said Roman Chernolutsky, one of Saakashvili's advocates.

"With me or without me, this power has already come to an end; and I'll return home to Ukraine very soon – much, much sooner than in three years," the politician wrote on his Facebook.

Let us remind you the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Georgia is seeking for Saakashvili's extradition to Georgia, where he is accused of a number of crimes. The political analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" believe that Saakashvili's extradition and trial in Georgia will cause mass protests and international resonance.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
