Russian SC upholds verdict to Shamil Nurmagomedov

Today, the Supreme Court (SC) of Russia has upheld the verdict to Shamil Nurmagomedov, a native of Makhachkala, sentenced on the charge of financing the "Islamic State" (IS*) for transferring money to his brother in Syria.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Shamil Nurmagomedov was arrested in Moscow and accused of financing terrorism after his brother Marat found himself in the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia by the court's decision. On February 6, the Moscow District Military Court sentenced Shamil Nurmagomedov to seven years of imprisonment in a common-security penal colony.

During the trial at the first instance court, Shamil Nurmagomedov refused to admit his guilt and said he helped his brother get out of the territory controlled by the IS*.

The appeal against the verdict to Shamil Nurmagomedov was considered by the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of Russia.

The judge read out the resolution without a reasoning part: "The appeal is to be rejected, and the verdict is to remain unchanged."

The "Caucasian Knot" published an interview with Shamil's father Kazim Nurmagomedov entitled "Bring back alive: From Dagestan to ISIL* to return the son". According to Kazim Nurmagomedov, all their efforts were aimed to help Marat escape IS*-held territory.
