Nikol Pashinyan accused Armenia ruling party of intent to disrupt election of Prime Minister
The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) intends to disrupt the election of the country's Premier, Nikol Pashinyan, the leader of the protest movement and the only candidate for the post of Prime Minister of Armenia, has stated. The RPA will announce its position after Pashinyan's presentation of his programme, Eduard Sharmazanov, the Vice Speaker of the National Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia, has stated.
On April 30, the "Elk" faction at the National Assembly of Armenia nominated Nikol Pashinyan for the Premiership. He is the only candidate for the post.
Speaking on the Facebook live, Pashinyan urged his supporters to gather on May 1 in Republic Square in order to show their will and "fail Serzh Sargsyan's plan."
"Recently, RPA members have declared that they will not impede the election of a people's candidate to the post of the Armenian Premier; however, it has just become known that at night the Republicans headed by Serzh Sargsyan decided to disrupt the election," Pashinyan has announced, adding that Serzh Sargsyan wants to restore the RPA's power.
Nikol Pashinyan has stressed that "people have won the revolution; and this victory must be fixed on May 1 at the parliamentary session."
The Armenian political analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" believe that the RPA will be forced to support Pashinyan's candidacy, otherwise they can occur under protesters' tough pressure.
