Authorities announce threat to Armenia's food security
Trucks with food cannot arrive in Armenia because of roads, blocked by protesters, the State Revenue Committee has stated.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today oppositional activists have blocked the road to the airport and streets in Yerevan. The airport workers held a strike. Public transport, taxis and metro stopped working. The railway is also blocked.
A new wave of protests began in Armenia after on May 1 MPs failed to elect Nikol Pashinyan, the leader of protests and the only candidate, to the post of the country's Prime Minister.
"The current situation creates obstacles for trucks' entry and customs servicing, which can cause a serious threat to food security," the above Committee has stated.
According to the Committee, there were cases when trucks turned back, unable to enter Armenia, the "Sputnik-Armenia" writes.
The Armenia's Ministry of Transports, Telecom and IT has added that "people cannot get to the airport and are late for flights". This "has a negatively effect on citizens and sectors of country's economy," the "NEWS.am" reports.
