Armenian Minister of Culture states his resignation

Armen Amiryan, the head of the Ministry of Culture of Armenia, has announced to the protesters, who demanded from him to come to a rally against the ruling party, that he is leaving his post. This is reported by the website of the "Aysor.am".

On Wednesday, several dozens of art workers and students of the Theatrical Institute gathered near the building of the Ministry of Culture and threatened the Minister to demand his resignation if he did not join the protests against the ruling party.

The Armenian government was dissolved after the resignation of Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan on April 23, after which all the ministers, including Armen Amiryan, received the status of acting heads of their ministries.

On May 1, Nikol Pashinyan, the leader of protests, called on his supporters to block roads and buildings of state structures after the MPs of the National Assembly (Parliament) failed to elect him as the head of the Armenian government (Premier). Pashinyan's candidacy was the only one, and should the Prime Minister not be elected before May 8, the Parliament will be dissolved. Today, Mr Pashinyan did not rule out his re-nomination for the post of Prime Minister, or a boycott of the election.
