Minor activist complains about ban to leave Azerbaijan

The 17-year-old Azerbaijani activist, who earlier stated her persecution for participating in the campaign "We'll Tell About Dictator", wanted to go to Georgia for medical treatment; however, according to her story, at the border checkpoint she was told that she was under ban on leaving the country.

The activist told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that on May 7, accompanied by her mother, she wanted to get to Georgia for treatment but could not cross the border.

"I was on my way to Georgia in order to get treatment of my hepatic disease, but at the 'Synyg-Kyorpyu' checkpoint I was stopped and told that I was under a ban to leave the country, imposed by department to combat trafficking in human beings of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA)," the young woman has explained, adding that she telephoned to the above MIA's department, and she was asked to come there on May 8 to give evidence to the investigator, after which the ban would be lifted.

"Now I'm going back to Baku: the ban on my leaving the country is completely groundless, because there's no criminal case against me, and I wasn't notified about the ban," the girl said.
