Armenian activists re-block entrances to General Prosecutor's Office

Supporters of the unit "Sasna Tsrer" (Daredevils of Sassoun) demand to change the pre-trial restriction measure to members of the armed unit and to dismiss the General Prosecutor of Armenia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from May 11, supporters of the members to the unit "Sasna Tsrer" demand to release them and hold protests, including blocking the traffic in Arshakunyats Avenue in Yerevan. On May 21, protesters blocked a building of the General Prosecutor's Office of Armenia and demanded the resignation of the General Prosecutor.

The "Sasna Tsrer" armed detachment captured the building of the patrol-and-post police service in Yerevan on July 17, 2016, and held it until July 30, 2016.

Today, starting from the early morning, about 15 people have blocked all the entrances to the General Prosecutor's Office and have not allowed prosecutors to enter the building. This has been told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Retired Colonel Volodya Avetisyan, one of the participants of the protest action.

According to him, in their hands, the protesters are holding posters reading: "Freedom to political prisoners!" and "Sasna Tsrer". They demand to change the pre-trial restriction measure to the members of the unit and dismiss the General Prosecutor of Armenia.

The protesters have also called on Armenian President Armen Sargsyan to declare an amnesty not only for those arrested for their political opinion, but also for all sentenced unjustly, Volodya Avetisyan emphasizes.
