Dagestani villagers demand not to demolish their houses

The participants in a protest action held in the village of Novaya Shangoda-Shitlib, Kumtorkalin District of Dagestan, demanded to cancel the court judgement that prescribes to demolish their houses and blocked entry to the village for court marshals and policemen.

According to calculations of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the action was about 300 people strong.

The villagers said that owners of 19 houses received notification about demolition. The protesters explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they had built their houses on legal grounds; and some of those in the demolition list had been built before the Mozdok-Kazimagomed gas pipeline was laid.

The villagers blocked the entrance and did not allow court marshals, policemen and heavy machines to pass through. They also demanded to cancel the demolition judgement and meet the republic's authorities.
