Memorial watch for victims of Beslan terror act kicks off in North Ossetia
A three-day memorial watch for those killed in the terror act in Beslan in 2004 kicked off on September 1 with laying flowers in the memorial complex. By noon, about a thousand people visited the memorial.
On September 1, 2004, militants took 1128 hostages and kept them in the gym of School No. 1 in Beslan. In total, 334 of them, including 186 children, perished, other 810 persons were injured.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 1 in all the districts of North Ossetia, except for the Pravoberezhny one, festive line-ups were held dedicated to the Day of Knowledge. In the Pravoberezhny District, the school year will begin on September 5. In South Ossetia, they also decided to start the school year on September 5 in all schools because of the Day of Sorrow for the victims of the Beslan tragedy.
In North Ossetia, on September 1, a three-day Memorial Watch to commemorate victims of the terror act in Beslan in 2004 is held every year. On these days, residents of the republic go School 1 of Beslan, bring flowers and put candles in the gym.
On September 1, the mourning events began at eight o'clock in the morning. At 9:15 a.m. Moscow time – exactly at the time when on September 1, 2004, terrorists attacked the school – a school bell rang in the memorial complex created in the gym, where hostages were kept. In front of the casualties' photos people light candles, leave flowers, toys and bottles of water – as a reminder that hostages so suffered from thirst here.
