In Chechnya, resident of Dagestan sentenced for trying to leave for Syria
In Chechnya, a court sentenced a 22-year-old native of Khasavyurt to 2.9 years in a penal colony for trying to join militants in Syria.
The court found that several months ago, the native of Dagestan tried to leave for Syria to join a terrorist organization. The man was detained while trying to leave, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the Prosecutor's Office of Chechnya.
According to the Chechen Prosecutor's Office, up to 800 residents of the republic may be among the militants in Syria. In late 2017, 746 residents of Chechnya were put on the wanted list for involvement in illegal armed formations (IAFs) in Syria.
