Nikol Pashinyan announces date of his resignation
Today, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has announced that he will resign until October 16 to ensure the dissolution of the country's parliament and the early parliamentary elections.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 2, a bill was adopted to let the Armenian parliament to continue its activities with the resignation of the Prime Minister. The amendments were adopted against the background of a protest organized by supporters of Nikol Pashinyan, while the Prime Minister himself declared a counterrevolution. On the same day, he held talks with MPs, and after that he announced that the early parliamentary elections would be held in December and he himself would resign in the coming days, but would remain in office as the acting prime minister. Nikol Pashinyan mentioned the agreement with the parliamentary factions ensuring that none of them would submit his candidacy for the post of prime minister as a condition of his resignation.
In his interview to the "France 24" TV Channel, Nikol Pashinyan has announced his intention to resign before October 16.
"The early elections [to the Armenian parliament] should take place on December 9-10, or several days earlier or later. Therefore, I am to resign before October 16," said Nikol Pashinyan as quoted today by the website of the "France 24" TV Channel.
