A prosecutor tries to commit suicide because of scandal with "Georgian Dream" Party
Mirza Subeliani, a former top-ranking official of the Chief Prosecutor's Office for Georgia, arrested in the case on the murder of two teenagers in Tbilisi, tried to commit suicide after audio records of his conversation with a Georgian MP about compromising evidence against the "Georgian Dream" Party had been made public.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Mirza Subeliani was accused of failure to report the murder of schoolchildren.
On December 1, 2017, two teenagers died from stab wounds got in a fight in Tbilisi. Two minors were involved in the case as suspects. Merab Morchadze, a former top-ranking official of the Chief Prosecutor's Office for Georgia, confessed that he had inclined witnesses to change their testimonies in favour of a defendant, who was his relative. Irakli Shotadze, Chief Prosecutor of Georgia, resigned amid protests in Tbilisi.
"Mirza Subeliani is under stress. He could not be interrogated because of his psychological state ... Yesterday, he attempted to commit suicide," said an advocate on the air of the "Imedi" TV Channel.
It is necessary to confirm the authenticity of the audio records and only then to write down the content of the conversation, stated Eka Beseliya, the head of the parliamentary committee on legal issues.
Investigators are to find out who made the audio records and who benefited from making them public.
