Supporters of Pashinyan hold rally at parliament building
Supporters of Nikol Pashinyan have held an action in the yard of the building of the National Assembly of Armenia (Parliament) with posters "Immediate dissolution of parliament and judiciary".
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 16, the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced his resignation and expressed confidence that the factions would not interfere with his plans to dissolve the parliament. On the same day, the government of Armenia resigned.
According to Pashinyan, the aim of his resignation was to bring the "velvet revolution" to the end and transfer power to the people. The Premier presented a roadmap, according to which the president immediately accepted his resignation, then the parliament failed to elect a new Prime Minister within 14 days, is dissolved for holding early elections.
The first round of voting for the election of Prime Minister of Armenia by the Parliament was scheduled for October 24.
Today, about 40 people gathered near the National Assembly, stating their aim to prevent the election of the Premier, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
"Citizens of Armenia demand to hold early parliamentary elections; and the only way to achieve this is through the Prime Minister's resignation. Against this background, it's important that the Parliament fails to elect a new Prime Minister today or in a week. Then, sometime in mid-December, we'll have parliamentary elections," Aram Manukyan, participant of the action, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
At the same time, as he said, "this action cannot be regarded as pressure on the parliament."
