In 2017, in Ingushetia, number of victims to armed conflict increased by 26%
In 2017, in Ingushetia, at least 24 people fell victim to the armed conflict. Of them 11 were killed and 123 others were wounded. In comparison with 2016, the total number of victims increased by 26%, and among law enforcers by six times. The number of armed incidents doubled, but the number of terror act decreased by 75%. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.
As a rule, the main indicator of the intensity of an armed conflict is the number of victims killed and wounded people during armed clashes and armed incidents, as well as bombings and terror acts. However, the very number of such cases is no less important and informative. Thus, the "Caucasian Knot" provides the information on the number of armed incidents, terror acts, and bombings in the regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), including in Ingushetia, in 2017 compared with the number of similar incidents in 2016.
Armed incidents
January-December 2017
In 2017, Ingushetia registered 10 armed incidents in total with 18 victims, including 9 killed and 9 wounded people. The death toll included 2 law enforcers and 7 militants. The number of the wounded included 5 law enforcers and 4 civilians.
January-December 2016
In 2016, Ingushetia registered 5 armed incidents in total with 15 victims, including 13 killed militants and two killed law enforcers. No wounded were reported.
Thus, in 2017, as compared to 2016, the number of armed incidents increased by 100% (by two times) and the number of victims to such incidents increased by 20%.
Bombings and terror acts
January-December 2017
In 2017, there were at least two explosions in Ingushetia. One of those explosions was a terror act, when a militant blew himself up at a road-and-patrol service (known as DPS) checkpoint. As a result, there were 6 victims. Of them, 2 were killed, including a militant and a law enforcer, and 4 law enforcers were wounded. No one suffered in the second explosion.
January-December 2016
In 2016, Ingushetia registered at least 5 explosions in total with 6 victims, including 4 wounded civilians and 2 killed militants. Out of those five explosions, four can be classified as terror acts, including three of them directed against religious leaders and one against an official.
In 2017, in comparison with 2016, the total number of explosions decreased by 60%, and the number of terror acts by 75%. But the total number of victims to the explosions remained at the same level. Meanwhile, in 2017, there are no civilians among the victims to the explosions and terror acts, whereas in 2016, they amounted to 67% of the total number of victims to the explosions and terror acts.
Results of the year: six-fold increase in casualties among law enforcers
In total, according to the "Caucasian Knot", in 2017, in Ingushetia, 24 people fell victim to the armed conflict. Of them, 11 were killed and 13 others were wounded.
Four victims were among the civilian population. Meanwhile, there were no killed civilians, only wounded.
Among law enforcers, there were 12 victims, including 3 killed and 9 wounded.
There were also 8 militants among the victims to the armed conflict, all of them were killed.
Thus, in 2017, in Ingushetia, the most numerous category among victims to the armed conflict was represented by law enforcers: 50% of the total number of victims. Civilians were the smallest category: 17% of the total number of victims. In 2017, militants comprised 33% of the total number of victims.

From the statistics for 2017, it is possible to make a conclusion about some destabilization of the situation in Ingushetia, since earlier, the region had a consistent annual decline in the number of victims, starting from 2013 and up to 2016. Meanwhile, in 2017, the number of victims among law enforcers increased by six times, while the number of victims among militants decreased. The number of armed incidents doubled in comparison with 2016. Meanwhile, the number of explosions and terror acts decreased significantly: by 60% and 75%, respectively. In contrast to 2016, no civilians fell victim to explosions and terror acts.
