Grandmother of killed schoolboy heads protest in Tbilisi

Marina Begadze, Zaza Saralidze's mother, has headed an action demanding to punish those responsible for the murder of her grandson. The protesters criticized the actions of the police who forbid them to set up tents in front of the Parliament in Tbilisi.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 26, Zaza Saralidze, the father of one of the killed schoolboys, was hospitalized from the police station, where he was taken for beating a policeman, who was trying to prevent Saralidze from setting up a tent outside the building of the parliament.

Marina Begadze has explained her decision to head the protest action by the desire to continue her son's activities.

"Zaza [Saralidze] stayed here (in front of the parliament) for 47 days; and he achieved nothing. He failed to get support from the government, if you do not take into account everything else. My son was detained; and the murderers of my grandson and those who shelter them are having fun in restaurants," Marina Begadze stated at the protest action held late in the evening on October 26, which was reported on the same day by the Georgian "Rustavi-2" TV Company.

Currently, the action at the parliament continues, and Zaza Saralidze himself is in one of the city clinics taking his treatment.

The participants in the protest action, oppositional politicians and NGO activists among them, have criticized the policemen's actions, who ban setting up tents. The police are taking illegal actions, as the law does not prohibit setting up tents at protest actions, activists have stated as quoted by the "Rustavi-2".
