Boulder placed into foundation of monument to repressed people in KChR

The monument, into foundation of which the first boulder was placed today, will be erected in the village of Bavuko of the Khabez District. The construction was initiated by a local resident who himself fell victim to political repressions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that different regions of Russia, including those in the south of the country, held actions in memory of victims of political repressions. In Nalchik, such a rally gathered 50 people.

"It is important that the memory of national tragedies serve as a warning for the present and future generations of Russians," said Aslan Ozov, the Prime Minister of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR), as quoted by the website of the republic's head and government.

"The initiator of the monument is Galim Argunov, a resident of our district and the author of the book 'Broken Childhood', who himself experienced all the burden of repressions," the TASS quotes official sources as saying.

In 1933, Argunov and his family were exiled to the Omsk Region. Then, he was 1.5 years old.
