Afghan Mukhtarly states violation of his right to correspondence in colony

Colony bosses refuse to send Afghan Mukhtarly's letter to the Azerbaijani Minister of Justice; in the letter he asks to allow him to communicate with relatives via Skype, Afghan's wife has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 12, the court sentenced Afghan Mukhtarly to six years in prison on charges of illegally crossing the border, smuggling and resisting a power official.

Bosses of Colony 16 refuse to send Afghan Mukhtarly's letter addressed to Fikret Mamedov, the Azerbaijani Minister of Justice, in which the journalist asks for an opportunity for video communication with his family, Leyla Mustafaeva, Afghan's wife, has stated today.

"We have to stay abroad and cannot visit Afghan. Our five-year-old daughter is already tired of talking to her father only by phone and wants to see him. She is experiencing serious psychological problems," Ms Mustafaeva told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

She has also expressed concern about her husband's health. According to her story, after a month ago Afghan was first placed into dungeon (punishment cell), and then kept in the rain for several hours in cold weather, he had a new problem apart from his old ones – a strong cough.
