Two protest leaders detained in Ingushetia

Law enforcers have detained activists Barakh Chemurziev and Akhmed Pogorov, who, together with other residents of Ingushetia, gathered today in the Sunzha District in order to go to the border with Chechnya to hold a subbotnik (a voluntary clean-up day) there.

On Saturday, November 17, law enforcers with special equipment were brought to Nazran and did not let activists to move to the place of the subbotnik.

Members of the teips (family clans), whose ancestral towers are located in the Sunzha District, near the Fortanga River, decided to organize a subbotnik in the disputed territory that was handed over to Chechnya after signing the border agreement. Users of social networks have suggested that the subbotnik will aggravate the Chechen-Ingush disagreements. The analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" saw an open challenge to the authorities of Chechnya in the subbotnik; while lawyers said that the political context of the action equates it to a rally.

The detainees are Barakh Chemurziev, a member of the organizing committee of the rally in Magas, the chairman of the public movement "Support of Ingushetia", and Akhmed Pogorov, a co-chairman of the World Congress of the Ingush People, as Ruslan Mutsolgov, the leader of the Ingush branch of the "Yabloko" Party, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
