Mamed Ibragim's defence demands to summon search witnesses

Three witnesses from among inmates of Colony No. 16 who were attracted as search witnesses, failed to appear at the trial of Mamed Ibragim, an adviser to the Chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA). This was reported by Turan, Ibragim's son. The defence insisted on interrogation of them; and the court has adjourned the session.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 29, Mamed Ibragim, who had served three years in colony, was to be released; however, he was arrested for two months in the case of keeping a knife. Ibragim himself denies the charges. His defence is drafting a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and stated the absence of proofs of Ibragim's guilt.

Mamed Ibragim was detained on September 30, 2015, on the complaint of Mikhail Guliev, who claimed that Ibragim had beaten him up. On March 15, 2016, the court sentenced him to three years in prison for hooliganism. Ibragim was put on the list of Azerbaijani political prisoners.

On December 4, the trial of Mamed Ibragim was continued at the Surakhani District Court of Baku. Employees of Colony No. 16 were questioned as witnesses, Turan Ibragim, Mamed's son, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"These employees repeated the same memorized text. But when the advocate asked about where and when the search protocol was drawn up, they gave contradictory answers," Turan has explained, adding that three other witnesses failed to appear in the courtroom.

"All of them are former inmates of Colony No. 16. After my father's arrest, all the three had their punishments mitigated. The advocate Djavad Djavadov insisted on summoning and questioning them. This issue is even more important in connection with the contradictory testimonies given by other witnesses-colony employees," Turan Ibragim has concluded.
