Oyub Titiev's arrest extended by three months
The court has upheld the demand of the prosecution and extended the arrest of Oyub Titiev, the head of the Grozny office of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", until March 22, 2019.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Titiev has been under arrest since January 11 on charges of drug possession. His advocates asked the court to release him under the house arrest.
In July, the Chechen Supreme Court (SC) left him in custody until December 22. Titiev claims that drugs were planted on him by law enforcers.
The lady-judge has considered that in the submitted materials "there is sufficient information confirming the involvement of the human rights defender in the crimes imputed to him", and this is enough to extend his freedom restriction. Also, "the court fears that Titiev may hide outside of Russia, since he has a passport for foreign travels."
